According to a plea by Delhi Jal Board (DJB), high ammonia content in water is being provided to Delhi by Haryana. According to petition, when water enters Haryana, the ammonia level is nil, whereas when the water enters Delhi, the level is very high.
Bench headed by Justice Jawad Rahim asked the chief secretaries of Delhi and Haryana to meet on February 20 and solve this issue.
According to the report submitted by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), ammonia level at Wazirabad is 1.9 mg per litre, 0.6mg per litre at Hathnikund Barrage, 24.9 at ITO barrage on February 14 while at Okhla water treatment plant it was 0.8 mg per litre on February 15.
The NGT ordered the State Governments to submit the result of the meeting by February 21. SC also ordered Haryana to supply sufficient water to Wazirabad and Haiderpur.
