In accordance to the policy, the petrol vehicles age more than 15 years and diesel vehicle more than 10 years will be seized. To dispose junk vehicles the transport department has collaborate with a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) and coming up with a facility in Greater Noida. The policy also aims to empower private entities to take up their disposal.
The purpose behind is to free up as much space as possible to provide parking, especially in the vicinity of residential areas, by removing junk vehicles which have either been abandoned by owners who have moved away or vehicles which are in junk condition.
Initially, the department will look for the junk vehicles around the city and the public can also contact the department for the junk vehicles de-registration. The policy is in process and will be submitted to the Delhi government soon.
The Delhi government is also trying collaboration with the MSTC, a PSU under the Union Steel Ministry and engaged in recycling waste, at the Greater Noida facility.
