NEW DELHI: North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) following the directions of Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority (EPCA), sealed nearly 100 illegal factories and warehouses in Narela Zone in outer Delhi on January 16, 2019, which were manufacturing polythene and plastic goods.

The civic body also cleared more than 9,000 metric tons of plastic waste from about 983 bighas of land and sent it for processing to the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant at Narela-Bawana.

The units sealed were located along the villages of Tikri Kalan, Mundka, Hirankudna, Neelwal, Nangloi, Kamruddin Nagar, Nilothi, Ghevra, Savdha and Madanpur Dabas. The waste generated by these factories has been a major reason behind highly polluting waste burning incidents in the region.

Yogender Singh Maan, the spokesperson of the civic body said, “These units have been closed down after carrying out a survey of the entire area in the last few days. Besides this drive, the civic body has also lifted more than 9,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste, clearing about 983 bighas of land in the area.”
