Nashik Municipal Corporation departments are all set to curb vector-borne diseases

NASHIK: The city has seen an upsurge in dengue and chikungunya cases in the last week, and the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken up the responsibility to fix the problem. NMC has directed 13 different departments under its jurisdiction to tackle the spread of these vector-borne diseases.

Kailas Jadhav, Commissioner, NMC, released the order for the departments overlooking water supply, public works, solid waste management, anti-encroachment, etc. The town planning department has been authorized to ensure that there is no stagnant water in the basements of buildings that are under construction. The water supply department, on the other hand, has been given the responsibility that water should not accumulate in pits in public places. Furthermore, the solid waste management department has been handed over with the responsibility of keeping drains cleans and also spread awareness about dengue in nearby areas.

Till September 16 this year, the city had received 737 dengue cases. Rajendra Trimbake, Health Officer, NMC, expressed his concern over the current rise in cases and has advised the respective departments to work towards eradicating the problem.
