ITANAGAR, Arunachal Pradesh: Under the ‘Aspirational District Programme’, the Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh has been ranked first based on overall performance for April 2022.

The Aspirational District Programme was launched in the year 2018, under the observational control of the National Institute for Transforming India (NITI), by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. The programme aims to localise the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thus, leading the country towards achieving these goals.

Under the challenge method of the programme, the Namsai district has made tremendous progress compared to the other districts. In February, Namsai district stood at 14th position from where it reached the first position. Due to this jump of 14 positions, the district has become qualified to receive an additional allocation of Rs 5 crores. The Namsai district has made significant progress in health, nutrition and the development of basic infrastructure.

As per the official statement of Rakesh Ranjan, Mission Director, prescribed guidelines mention that a district must have to prepare a Plan of Action (PoA), in consultation with the state and Central Prabhari Officer and forward the same for the approval of the Empowered Committee of Secretaries established under NITI Aayog.

The statement further reads, “NITI Aayog has constituted a Project Management Unit (PMU), comprising a team of Asian Development Bank (ADB) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) experts, to assist the districts in formulation of projects.”

Additionally, a Good Service Entry has been issued to the District Collector for the excellent performance of the district. Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu posted on his twitter wall, “Congratulations to Namsai district for securing 1st rank in overall performance for April 2022, under Aspirational Districts Program. Appreciate the hardwork, dedication and passion of district team led by DC R K Sharma & Central Prabhari Officer.”
