Nagaland to join Himalayan Clean-up campaign

NAGALAND: Nagaland to join Himalayan Clean-up campaign from May 25, 2019. The campaign will be conducted in states’ five districts – Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Mon.

L H Thangi Mannen, convenor of Nagaland for Himalayan Clean-Up (THC), said, “The drive will include focus on solid waste management on mountains.”

“The plastic waste will be assessed by its quantity and type of the waste. Then a report will be sent to Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI) for further process. The Himalayan Clean-up was started to fight plastic pollution on mountains by segregation.” she added.

The THC is an yearly event organised on May 26 across the Himalayan states in India. But for this year the event has now been pre-pone to May 25 as May 26 falls on Sunday. The drive was stared last year with “beat plastic pollution” theme of World Environment Day to address plastic pollution problems on mountains, majorly focussing on single use plastics.
