MYSURU: The Mysuru division of Southern Railway launched a safety drive for creating public awareness among people against trespassing on a railway track after a horrific accident took place in Amritsar last week.

An official statement issued by Railway Board to the zonal offices called for announcements at railway stations for educating people against trespassing on railway tracks.
“The South Western Railway holds priority to safety of rail users and the public as foremost. Every effort is made to discourage rail users, and the general public from indulging in any practice detrimental to their safety, including trespassing of railway tracks,” a statement from the Railways said.
As per the statement, any person violating the rule is going to be punished under Section 147 of the IR Act, 1989. The violator can be imprisoned for a term up to six months or fined Rs 1000 or both.
