MPCB to use drones to measure air pollution levels in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), in a bid to increase the efficiency of pollution monitoring across the state, is planning to introduce drones to monitor air quality in the cities. This move will give the board the ability to get real-time data on vehicular pollution.

The pilot project of drone monitoring is currently being implemented in Andheri area of Mumbai and the project would be extended based on the success of this.

Vidyanand Modagare, joint director of MPCB, informed, “We will check 13 parameters with the help of drones and will collect data on air quality at different altitudes. Currently, drones are testing air quality within a 10km-radius, at an altitude of 2,000 meters.”
