MoHUA launches GHTC to build affordable houses in less time

NEW DELHI: Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State (IC) Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), launched Global Housing Technology Challenge (GHTC) between stakeholders on January 13, 2019, which aimed to bring the best technologies that will help to build houses in less time and also lower the cost.

The GHTC is launched under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAYU). The central government will hold “Grand Expo-cum-Conference” in March where all the stakeholders will show their best technologies to build houses in less time and at affordable rates.

Speaking on the launch of GHTC, Hardeep Singh Puri said, “There is a need to look for new emerging, environment-friendly, disaster resilient, cost-effective and the technologies which may boost the construction work.”

On the occasion, Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog said, “The time frame for construction of houses in the country must be reduced to four to five months.” It is to be mentioned that the PMAYU was launched by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, in June 2015, which was aimed to construct one crore or more houses and also to ensure “Housing for all by 2022”.
