MOHALI: A Town Vending Committee has been formed by the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MMC) to rehabilitate vendors under the Street Vendors Act. The committee included representatives of street vendors, police administration and social organisations.
This committee will coordinate with street vendors and MMC and formulate plans for the rehabilitation of street vendors. The meeting for establishing this committee took place on Wednesday, August 11. It was headed by Amarjit Singh Jiti Sidhu, Mayor, Mohali, and Amrik Singhal Somal, Senior Deputy Mayor, Mohali.
The constituted committee will have participation from all sections of society. Members of the committee will have to take up the work diligently and fulfill their responsibilities to ensure the right to earn a living for the vendors, Sidhu said. This initiative will eradicate illegal occupations and benefit the people of Mohali.
