MUMBAI: A fleet of 25 hybrid AC buses have been launched in collaboration with Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in Mumbai. The buses will run from Borivali, Mulund, Thane and Kharghar to BKC from March 19.
The buses were launched by Chief Minister DevendraFadnavis on March 16, at Malabar Hill in South Mumbai. The main aim, behind to launch these buses, is to reduce pollution.
Hybrid buses will run on dual power – diesel and electric, and have comfortable seats with safety features for the passengers, including CCTV cameras, free WiFi, USB connection and LED display. The seats are equipped with integrated charging points and headrest.
The fare on the routes; Borivili, Mulund, Thane and Kharghar to BKC, vary from minimum of Rs.63 to the maximum of Rs.110. The fare on the local routes within BKC will vary between Rs.16 to Rs.26.“The new design, CCTV cameras, wi-fi and more importantly, the hybrid-electric advanced technology is what makes the bus expensive,” said an MMRDA official.
The buses are going to provide point-to-point service for long distance commuters at designated timings in the mornings (7.30 -8.30 am) and evenings (6 pm- 7pm).
