MUMBAI: No trees would be cut inside the Aarey colony without civic authority’s permission in Mumbai. The lawyer of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) Kiran Bagalia told Bombay High Court on October 3.

The bench was headed by the Acting Chief Justice Naresh Patil and Justice Girish Kulkarni.

MMRCL stated the information to HC against the petition filed by Rakesh Singh, the advocate of Aam Aadmi Party leader Preeti Sharma Menon and Ruben Mascarenhas.

Singh claimed that MMRCL has started cutting trees which are en route to the proposed Metro yard in the forested locality without any official permission from the civic authority.

In defence, MMRC’s lawyer Kiran Bagalia said that trees weren’t being cut without permission, and if needed, it would only be after the permission of concerned authority. The court put her statement on record and the matter is scheduled for the next hearing on October 10.
