Mumbai: Minimum penalty for violating plastic ban still remains Rs 5000 as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) law committee rejected the civic body’s proposal for reducing the plastic ban penalty from Rs 5000 to Rs 200 on Wednesday, 20 June.

The state environment department also decided to put a complete stop on manufacturing and use of plastic carry bags. “If carry bags are not available at all, there is no question of people using them,” said Anil Diggikar, principal secretary, environment.

To support the plastic ban, BMC held a training session for 200 from the license, markets and encroachments departments. The civic inspectors are given clear instruction to not harass citizens and to perform duty well.

From Saturday, 23 June onwards if you are caught by civic inspector for violating plastic ban law, you will be fined and chances are that he or she will take your Aadhaar card or PAN number for taking strict action against you if you caught by civic inspector more than one time for violating the law.

BMC will also hold an exhibition of three from Friday 22, June onward on use of alternative for plastic at National Sports Club of India, Worli.
