PANCHKULA: Municipal Corporation of Panchkula (MCP) is planning to start 100 per cent door-to-door segregated waste collection in its three wards (14,15,16). Ward 14 comprises Sector 14, 12, 12A and villages Railla and Railly, while ward 15 comprises Sectors 10 and 11, and ward 16 comprises Sector 2, Majri village and Sector 4, including Haripur village.
Rajesh Jogpal, Municipal Corporation’s Administrator, announced that the corporation would be responsible for the collection and disposal of waste from residential areas to the designated dumping sites and would employ e-rickshaws for the task. The authorities have decided upon a compost plant at Sec-12, Panchkula, as the processing site for the waste. The plant has been in operation since October 2018. “With procedures to start construction and operations of the onsite waste compost plant, the corporation is looking to streamline its waste collection process. In the next few months, all MCP wards will have the segregated door-to-door waste collection facility,” he said.
The residents are instructed to segregate waste at individual level into 3 categories- dry, wet and domestic hazardous waste and hand it over to the authorised collectors only. Residents who violate this norm would be penalised as per law, added Jogpal. The authority has also begun initiatives to tighten their watch on the open burning of wastes.
