CHANDIGARH: A special house summon was held on July 15 to decide that the union territory (UT) of Chandigarh will be getting a waste-to-power plant. The meeting was attended by experts from the Punjab Engineering College and the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee.

“After technical experts and views of consultants , they have reached a resolution to tackle the wet waste. We have a facility of composting in Dadumajra plant. Moreover, we are working on ways to upgrade and augment its capacity,” Krishna Kumar Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, stated.  Chandigarh is probably one of the few cities in the country that produce a good amount of horticulture waste, owing to its thick green shed.

Three agencies-Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT-R), and Thapar Institute of Engineering, Patiala, will be providing quotations. “We have requested quotations from PEC, IIT Ropar and Thapar Institute , to see which  varsity can provide us with the most feasible quotation so we can prepare the Detailed Project Report,” Yadav added.
