CHANDIGARH: In a recent mayoral election held in Chandigarh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Manoj Sonkar defeated the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) mayoral candidate Kuldeep Kumar. Sonkar secured 16 votes out of the total 35-member Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. AAP candidate managed to secure 12 votes while eight votes were declared invalid.
Earlier, the polls were scheduled for January 18, but due to the poor health of the presiding officer, Anil Masih, voting was deferred. Finally, the voting took place on Tuesday, January 30, and votes were counted on the same day.
