KSPCB to install GPS on vehicles transporting hazardous waste

BENGALURU: K Sudhakar, Chairperson, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has directed the authorities to install GPS system on all the vehicles used for transporting  hazardous waste in the state.

The directions came after a review meeting of KSPCB, about the status of compliance of pollution control and environmental protection regulations. After the meeting, K Sudhakar issued directions for the method of collection, storage, transportation, treatment and disposal mechanism being followed in the state.

A press release issued by the KSPCB said K Sudhakar directed the concerned officials to ensure waste should be lifted from the industry premises before 6 pm and reaches the treatment facility by 7 pm. To make the system more efficient KSPCB will work on exploring the feasibility of fixing the service area and the per unit rate for treatment of waste while senior regional officials are directed to inspect the facility to verify compliance.

The KSPCB also said it will take serious action against defaulters.
