Kozhikode plans to deploy advanced mobile STPs

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation is planning to deploy mobile sewage treatment plants (STPs) for better waste management in the city.
The proposal was approved by the corporation council and has been submitted to the District Planning Committee (DPC).
The proposed STPs will make use of electrolysis method to break down contents of septic tank and convert them into water and manure. The STPs will be of 1000 liter capacity each and can treat upto 20,000 liter of waste if used for 24 hours.
Dr R S Gopakumar, health officer, Kozhikode Corporation said,“Only less than 2 percent of the total mass will be solid waste which is usually deposited back into the septic tank. The water, if approved by the State Pollution Control Board,will be let into drains.”
