Karnataka is ready to get a vaccine panel

BENGALURU: Government of Karnataka will form a committee of experts to design a roadmap for vaccinating the citizens across the state whenever it is available. Dr K Sudhakar, Health Minister, Government of Karnataka, met the representatives of AstraZeneca on Tuesday, October 28. He said that the committee will consist of various epidemiologists, technology and logistics experts under the guidance of Dr Sudhakar.

Dr Sudhakar also said that he has invited the representatives from Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech for an initial meet. Bharat biotech is conducting the trials for Indian COVID-19 vaccine named Covaxin. He added that the state government has decided to vaccinate the COVID-19 warriors in the first phase followed by people with low-resistance. The vaccine is expected to be available from the early 2021 which can be confirmed only after the completion of third trials.

Dr Sudhakar also said that the first and second trials are already completed and the third phase of trials are under process where almost 1,600 people are vaccinated in India. He requested the pharma companies to add more people to the trials. He refused to address any question related to the cost of vaccinations. He said that it is too early to comment on the topic of free vaccination.
