NEW DELHI: Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, announced the construction of 13 new highway projects in north Karnataka stretching along 847 kilometres (km) at a cost of Rs 21,000 crore. The announcement was made on Friday, January 15, after he inaugurated the construction of Elevated Corridor at Rani Chennamma Circle, Hubballi.
Gadkari said that the Government of India is committed to the development of highways in the state. He added that 13 projects will begin in the state, including the construction of a four-lane road in Hubballi-Dharwad Bypass and a four-lane ring road in Belagavi. He also said that the Central government will work with the Government of Karnataka to eradicate the state’s poverty by improving agriculture and industries. Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa praised the efforts of the Central government to invest Rs 1.16 lakh crore for the development of highways in the state.
