JAMMU: On Tuesday, July 27, a senior official of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) told United News of India (UNI) that the Corporation will soon be undertaking the installation of Automatic Vehicle Location System (AVLS) in all vehicles of the urban local body to monitor their movement. This technology will provide the real-time location of the vehicles to the Corporation. Vehicles equipped with AVLS technology will be under surveillance via a control room coming up in the JMC complex. “The AVLS technology will be installed in all vehicles in few days at a cost of about Rs 17 lakhs. Preparations are in full swing for the same,” a JMC official said. The General House of JMC came up with this plan in wake of complaints of rigging and misuse of vehicles besides oil consumption, which is worth lakhs every month. The installation of GPS-based AVLS technology in vehicles will benefit JMC in monitoring their working with total transparency. These efforts are being made with the aim of making Jammu a Smart City and also to provide people with better facilities.
