Indore shares the formula of becoming the cleanest city in India

INDORE, Madhya Pradesh: Pratibha Pal, Commissioner, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), shared the success formula that helped the city to attain the title of India’s cleanest city in the Swachh Survekshan national rankings for the sixth consecutive time. IMC Commissioner was presenting at a workshop organised at the Lucknow-based directorate of urban local bodies (ULBs) on Friday, November 4.

Pal, in her presentation, described how the ULBs of Uttar Pradesh could improve their position in the Swachh Survekshan national rankings. She told the participants how a pilot project has made the city free of garbage boxes and has introduced garbage trucks in selected wards. The movement of these garbage trucks is monitored with the help of a GPS navigation system.

She spoke at length about how the city collects six different types of waste separately. She also talked about some of the initiatives of the concerned city authorities, including ‘Thaila Bank’, ‘Bartan Bank’, ‘Zero waste Event’, ‘Disposal Free Area’, ‘Zero Waste Wedding’, ‘Nala Cricket’, ‘Nala Cleaning Campaign’, ‘Nala Medical Checkup’, ‘Nala Football’ and ‘Nala Dangal’.

The officials were informed how the waste material is transported either to the dumping ground, material recovery plants, dry waste processing plants or compost plants after segregation. The official also informed the participants about the construction of Asia’s largest bio-CNG plant that is being built in Indore. Once completed, this plant will turn waste into biogas that can be used for transportation.

Durgashanakar Mishra, Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh, Roopa Mishra, Joint Secretary and Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission, Neha Sharma, Director of Local Bodie and Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary, Department of Urban Development were present in the workshop.
