Indore secures 1st spot in Swachh Vayu Survekshan

INDORE, Madhya Pradesh: The cleanest city in India, Indore, has prevailed in the latest edition of the Swachh Vayu Survekshan conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). 

Swachh Vayu Survekshan is a national-level exercise initiated by the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, in which 131 cities across India are assessed and ranked based on the implementation of the activities prescribed to improve the air pollution situation in major Indian cities under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). 

The performance of the cities is assessed based on the self-assessment report submitted by the cities to the central pollution control board. Self-assessment reports cover eight parameters, including biomass and municipal solid waste burning (40 marks), road dust management (40), management of construction and demolition waste (10), vehicular emission (40), industrial emission (30), controlling emission from other sources (30), creating awareness among the public (5) and improvement in the PM10 concentration level (5).   

In the million-plus population category of the survey, Indore has secured the first rank by scoring 187 marks out of 200, closely followed by Agra (Uttar Pradesh) with 186 marks and Thane (Maharashtra) with 185.5 marks. 

In categories of three to 10 lakh population category, Amravati in Maharashtra has been in the first spot, followed by Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh in second and third place, respectively. 

In the category which features cities with a population below three lakhs, Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh (HP) secured the first spot with a score of 193.6, followed by Kala Amb with 193 points in second place.
