Indian Railways to introduce hydrogen-powered train by year-end

NEW DELHI: Indian Railways is preparing to launch its first hydrogen-powered train by the end of the year. This innovative project aims to revolutionise eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions.

Designed with cutting-edge technology, it promises to offer a cleaner alternative to traditional diesel engines, aligning with India’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Hydrogen fuel cells generate electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, producing only water vapour as a byproduct. This makes the train a zero-emission vehicle, significantly cutting down pollution levels.
B G Mallya, Railway Board Member, highlighted the project’s potential to transform the rail sector. By integrating hydrogen technology, Indian Railways aims to reduce its carbon footprint and set a precedent for future advancements in sustainable transportation.
