NEW DELHI: In a report released on Wednesday, November 18, by the union of 14 global think tanks, which included The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), it was found that India is the only country among G20 nations which is on course to meet its goal set under the Paris Agreement in 2015. It also showed that the leading emitters i.e. China, the United States of America, the European Union, and the other leading and emerging economies other than India are far from achieving their goals. India is the only country that is two-degree compatible according to the report.

Despite the fact that China has announced that it will be carbon neutral by 2060, it is in the category of ‘highly insufficient’ according to the climate action tracker, whereas India is in “compatible’ category.

Ajay Mathur, Director General of TERI, said that India could alter the situation of its carbon emissions course through large-scale adoption of renewable electricity. He further said that possibly the future growth of electricity-generating capacity in the nation will be derived from renewable and storage as a result of the price advantages. India has to now work on the development of electric transport, renewable electricity and use of green hydrogen in industries.
