LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: Violators of Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules 2016, including individual and bulk waste generators, will now attract a fine ranging from ₹50 to ₹2,000.
The Department of Urban Development informed that from March 4 a statewide campaign will be organised to ensure source segregation of waste. Households, commercial property owners and construction site owners will be penalised in case of violation of the SWM norms. Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), having a population of over six lakhs, have been empowered to collect an additional ₹200 over the monthly user fee from the house owner if they do not separate the dry and wet waste.
Similarly, ULBs having a population less than six lakhs can collect a fine of ₹150 in addition to monthly user charges. In the same manner, municipal councils and city councils could also charge a fine of ₹100 and ₹50 respectively.
Apart from that, each instance of improper disposal of construction and demolition waste will attract a fine of ₹2,000 in big cities of the state. On the other hand, smaller cities can collect a fine ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,200. Similar slabs have been created based on waste, including horticulture waste and animal waste.
