CHANDIGARH: In a bid to reduce the number of accidents on highways, the Haryana Police has come up with a solution of painting the rears of slow moving, stranded or illegally parked vehicles with fluorescent colors. The new measure is to implemented from Karnal to Sonepat stretch. The Additional Director General of Police (law and order) said on June 20, “A number of accidents occurred on highways, especially at night due to lack of reflectors on vehicles. We are getting rear of such vehicles painted with fluorescent colors in Panipat. After Karnal and Kaithal, the experiment will be replicated in other stretches also in collaboration with the traffic and highway police.” According to the ADG, the state police is also planning to initiate a special drive to drill safety triangle reflectors on the rear of similar vehicles in Panipat and Karnal districts to curb the number of fatal accidents on the highways, which is growing day by day.
