VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam railway station becomes third in the country to get Platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for adopting environment friendly concepts and reducing adverse environmental impacts. Prior to this, Secunderabad and Jaipur railway stations were awarded the prestigious rating.
Visakhapatnam railway station adopted smart and green initiatives with innovative developmental activities and secured 82 points out of 100 in six environmental categories such as Sustainable Station Facility, Hygiene and Sanitation, Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Smart Green Initiative and Innovation & Development. The station also earned many other distinctions like Cleanest Station of Indian Railways in 2017, Safaigiri Award in 2018, ranked good grade by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), etc. Chetan Kumar Srivastav, Divisional Railway Manager, lauded the Visakhapatnam station team, Environment and Health Management Department, medical and other departments, who have put in efforts to make the station sustainable.
