Housing & Urban Development Department of Odisha receives HUDCO Award

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha’s Housing and Urban Development Department receives HUDCO Award for Best Practices in Housing, Urban Poverty & Infrastructure for improving the living environment for the year 2018-19.

Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO) is a public sector enterprise fully owned by the Government of India, under the Companies Act 1956. HUDCO missions to promote sustainable habitat development to enhance quality of life.

Housing & Urban Development Department’s ‘universal coverage of urban piped water supply’ has been selected as one of the award winning best practice in the said category. Kudumbashree – State Poverty Eradication Mission has bagged another award in the same category for ‘PMAY-LIFE House Construction through Woman Construction Group’.

Every year the HUDCO Award for Best Practices is being awarded for ten-selected best practices under seven themes or categories. Total sum of Rs 1 lakh along with a trophy and commemorative certificates is awarded to the winners.

State Urban Development Agency of Chhattisgarh won the best practice award for ‘Pre-Audit/Internal Audit in 168 ULB’s & Accrual Based Double Entry Accounting System in 168, under the Urban Governance theme. Whereas, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation received award for ‘City Bus Services at Tier II and III Cities & Towns’ under the Urban Transport theme.

‘Energy Security Efforts by Surat Municipal Corporation’ and ‘Revitalization of Derelict Urban Spaces-Chhakarpur-Wazirabad Bundh’ are the award winning best practices by Surat Municipal Corporation of Gujarat.

Petland Municipality in Gujarat and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) respectively received best practice award under the Sanitation theme for ‘door to door collection of sanitary napkins & diapers & best out of waste’ and ‘Say no to manual scavenging in sewer operations by use of mini sewer jetting vehicles’.

Ujjain Development Authority of Madhya Pradesh under the ‘Urban Design and Regional Planning, Inner City Revitalization & Conservation’ theme also received best practice award for ‘Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayaee Anubhuti Udhyan.

However, no entry has been selected for Award under the Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Rehabilitation theme.
