BHUBANESWAR: Twenty-four of the 64 sluice gates of Hirakud dam in Odisha were opened by the authorities on Friday, August 28, following continuous rain that lifted the water levels of the Mahanadi river. The Hirakud Dam Reservoir is currently 624.83 feet water level.
According to the office of the Special Relief Commissioner, 24 Sluice Gates have today been opened to discharge floodwaters at the Hirakud reservoir by 9 am. The water level at the reservoir is 624.83 feet, the dam registered water inflow of 6,52,668 cusec and outflow of 3,43,372 cusec.
In the past few days, isolated areas of Odisha received heavy rainfall, leading to overflowing of water bodies and creating problems for people in commuting due to submersion of roads in the floodwaters.
