Guwahati soon to get first e-waste recycling unit in Northeast

GUWAHATI: Guwahati will soon get the first electronic waste plant for recycling the waste generated. This plant will be the first plant in the Northeast region. It is to be set up United Global Trust, an organization based in the city. This plant will be the first authorized unit to serve all the eight states of Northeast.

As a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), this project is supported by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). As per the report, The Pollution Control board of Assam (PCBA) has approved the plant.

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has identified Guwahati as one of the ten cities which have the lowest e-waste awareness. Therefore, the United Global Trust will work on spreading awareness regarding e-waste and how it should be collected and disposed. It is to be mentioned that India is the fifth largest generator of e-waste that accounts for two tonnes annually.
