VADODARA: The Government of Gujarat, on August 21, announced allotment of 31 hectares of land in Vadodara district at half the market price for setting up of India’s first Railway University. During a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, the decision to allot the land in Waghodia taluk at 50 per cent of the market rate for permanent campus of the university was taken, said Nitin Patel, Deputy Chief Minister of the State.
The National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), popularly known as the Railway university currently operates from its temporary location in the premises of Pratap Vilas Palace in Vadodara city. “The land will be also utilised for construction of various academic buildings, a hostel and a training centre,” added Patel.
At present, NRTI, a deemed university focused on transport-related education, offers two programmes – Bachelors of Science in Transportation Technology and Bachelors of Business Administration in Transportation Management.
