Additional Commissioner, GHMC, Musharraf Faruqui said that “they were able to connect the power generated to the grid on a one-time basis and now are awaiting two approvals — one from TSTransco to connect it to the electrical grid permanently and the other from the Telangana State Pollution Control Board”.
The GHMC officials said that these plants are equipped with flue gas cleaning system to prevent pollution, and producing green power is a major step taken toward achieving Swachh Hyderabad.
The city of Hyderabad generates around 5000 tonnes of garbage per day and the civic body hope to use the garbage waste for generating green power. Currently, integrated garbage is used to produce power. “The calorific value will be less and energy per kg of garbage produced will be less in the unsegregated garbage due to the presence of stones and cement blocks,” said Musharraf Faruqui.
Initially, the 11 MW capacity Bibinagar will generate 6 MW power, and GHMC is planning to complete the second phase of the plant by December.
