GMDA removes encroachments from 3.7 km stretch

GURUGRAM, Haryana: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) conducted a two-day demolition drive to remove encroachment from the area around the green belts and the master roads in sectors 61, 62, 66, 67, 69, and 70. As per the official statement, over 3.7 km of stretch has been cleared of encroachments.

As part of the demolition drive, the metropolitan authority has removed 48 huts, 25 plant nurseries, 14 tea stalls, three shops, and 42 temporary shops selling juice, fruit, furniture, and vegetables. Apart from that, seven building material shops and five car workshops have also been dismantled. Additionally, the encroachment made by car showrooms and repair shops in front of their building premises has also been removed.

Earlier on Thursday, August 8, the authority also cleared a larger number of temporary structures, shops, and unlicensed street vendors running on the green belt of GMDA without the permission of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), have been cleared.

RS Bhath, District Town Planner of GMDA, who led the entire anti-encroachment drive, said, “We are taking strict measures to clear all encroachment found along master roads and green belts of Gurugram, according to the directions of the CEO of GMDA. We have zero tolerance against violators and will continue repeated checks to ensure that re-encroachment does not occur.”

He added that the urban planning and GIS division officials were also present during the drive.
