Gadkari launches ‘Go Electric’ EV awareness campaign

NEW DELHI: Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, Government of India, launched the ‘Go Electric’ campaign to spread awareness on the benefits of e-mobility and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure as well as electric cooking on Friday, February 19. The programme was launched in the presence of R K Singh, Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.

Gadkari said at the launch event that electric fuel is the most important alternative of fossil fuels which have an import bill of almost Rs 8 lakh crore. He also urged the power minister to encourage value addition to carbon-dioxide which is released from thermal power plants. He added that power ministry should promote generation of green power from agriculture waste and biomass which can benefit farmers across the country. Go Electric campaign is an important initiative that will aid in reducing the import dependence of the country. The programme is aimed to sensitise people at pan-India level and is also expected to boost the confidence of EV manufacturers.

‘Go Electric’ logo was also unveiled at the launch event which depicts the evolution of e-mobility ecosystem. An exhibition was also organised by the industry players to showcase different EV including e-buses, e-cars, 3-wheelers and 2-wheelers, including charging infrastructure such as fast chargers and slow chargers. The launch was attended by important delegates from state governments, public sector undertakings (PSUs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), and other industry players from various sectors.
