CHANDIGARH, Haryana: The Chief Minister of Haryana has decided to establish flying squads in line with the CM flying squad to take stringent action against the contractors responsible for irregularities in weighing solid waste.

Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar, convened a review meeting concerning solid waste management in municipal corporations, municipal councils and committees. Moolchand Sharma, Minister for Transport, Government of Haryana; Kamal Gupta, Minister of Urban Local Bodies; and Anup Dhanak, Minister of State Labour, also attended the meeting.

Flying squads will consist of officers and employees, including police DSPs, inspectors and sub-inspectors. These flying squads will operate similarly to the CM flying squads responsible for conducting raids in response to corruption complaints or irregularities in government departments. The newly established flying squad will monitor solid waste plants, door-to-door collection, and inspect vehicles at entry points for waste evacuation.

The Chief Minister has emphasised the importance of ensuring transparency in the tendering process and has pledged to personally oversee it.

Khattar directed city officials to install weighing machines at entry and exit points of garbage-carrying vehicles to ensure contractors are paid accurately. He also added that any bioproducts made out of the waste should be marketed. Additionally, CM directed that in cities like Gurugram, Faridabad and Ambala, drone technology should be employed to monitor garbage disposal projects.

It is also necessary to lay new sewerage lines in cities where the existing ones have been damaged over time.
