MYSURU: The Government of Karnataka and the private sector stakeholders convened on Saturday, November 13 to discuss their views and recommendations on sustaining the growth and development of Mysuru in the long run.

The exercise was part of a programme organised by the Mysuru chapter of the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) and the Mysuru Urban Development Authority. The aim was to generate awareness of ‘Sustainable Cities Integrated Approach Pilot (SCIAP) programme.

The SCIAP programme aims to integrate sustainability strategies into urban planning and management of cities to further create a favourable environment for encouraging investments in transformative projects, infrastructure and service delivery. The project is being piloted in Bhopal, Guntar, Jaipur and Vijayawada, apart from Myruru. The project also aims to spread knowledge on sustainable urban planning and projects ensuring low emission along with the incorporation of environmentally sound technologies.

Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman HV Rajeev told the Hindu that the city’s current pattern of horizontal expansion is unsustainable. He also pointed out that the current development outside the Mysuru City Corporation limits has resulted in unorganised growth beyond the Outer Ring Road. DB Natesh, Commissioner, MUDA, said that Mysuru can decrease its emissions by encouraging cycling and laying more dedicated cycle tracks.
