NEW DELHI: People using Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train for travelling from Delhi to Palwal, Ballabhgarh, Ghaziabad, Faridabad will soon be getting a better journey as the Northern Railway’s is planning to bring a new train model, equipped with CCTV cameras, toilets and more seating arrangements on these routes.
EMU, DEMU and DMU run daily in NCR and are used by thousands of passengers every morning and evening.
R N Singh, divisional railway manager (DRM), Delhi Division, said that the worry of women security with these new trains and other facilities, which are missing in the current fleet, were also noticed.
Railways had recently increased security in local trains, however, the problem of men entering all-women trains persists. At present, only a few trains running locally have dedicated RPF personnel, also leaving it vulnerable to snatching. Total 323 passenger trains run from Delhi to Palwal, Ghaziabad, Mathura, and Meerut. These include 109 EMUs, 59 Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMU), 34 Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) and 121 Normal Travelers. Fare for a 30km journey costs just Rs 10. Each and every coach will have 110 seats and a GPS-based navigational system. One has to pay is maximum Rs 35 for a 165km trip.
