NEW DELHI: East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) is planning on adopting a resolution stating that there should be a moratorium on the sealing of houses built till March 2021. The EDMC standing committee, with this decision, aims to provide relief from demolition or sealing activity to such properties.
This resolution was moved considering that east Delhi is a densely populated area and sealing of properties is a major issue, which needs to be addressed. Moreover, once a property is booked by the corporation due to lack of an approved building plan, it remains ineligible for a water connection. The three-member monitoring committee has so far approved 712 desealing cases of houses in the jurisdiction of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. The largest proportion of sealed properties lie under South Delhi Municipal Corporation, where around 2000 units were sealed.
