NEW DELHI: The Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) has asked the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to re-examine its proposal for a central government housing redevelopment project coming to Mohammadpur in South-West Delhi.
While earlier the proposal for the general pool residential colony at Mohammadpur village was given a thumbs-up by the Arts body on January 31, 2018, a revised scheme presented recently was found inappropriate.
As per DUAC, the revised scheme involves cutting of many trees, destroying existing structures in CPWD project, and replacing old type-IV houses with modern flats, to create a new government housing colony.
A DUAC official said that the revised proposal was done with the provision of the basement and instead multi-level parking facility was built. “It was noted that 226 out of 634 existing trees will be relocated and 35 will be uprooted. The Commission noticed that more trees can be saved with modification in the plan,” officials said.
The scheme involves the construction of 400 type-II and 345 type-III general pool residential housing units.
This project is a part of the scheme of redevelopment of 7 GPRA colonies of the Center: Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Nauroji Nagar and Kasturba Nagar, Thyagaraj Nagar, Srinivaspuri and Mohammadpur.
