THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: V K Prasanth, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, inaugurated a dry waste collection hub at the health inspector office at Sasthamangalam on May 10.
The waste collection hub comes with facilities arranged for segregation of deposited waste like glass, paper, bags, plastic, cloths, metal waste etc. Civic body have also appointed corporation workers at the hub for its proper maintenance and functioning of the hub round the clock.
The mayor said that the hub, the first of its kind in the city, was set up to make it easy for the public to hand over segregated non-biodegradable waste. He said that dumping of waste in public spaces can be controlled by creating awareness about segregated waste collection.
To promote the use of dry waste collection at the hub, the corporation has announced gifts for those citizens who will upload selfies from the selfie point near the hub to the Smart Trivandrum mobile application. A questionnaire on waste management is also available here for the public, on completing which they can win gifts.
