NEW DELHI: In view of the rising pollution levels in Delhi, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has set up 1 team in order to rigorously monitor emissions in industrial areas. The teams have been asked to monitor emissions particularly during the night and take strict action against those industries which are not following emission norms. This comes after the Supreme Court had asked pollution boards in Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to set up committees for this purpose in January.

The teams will also check the dumping and burning of any type of waste in industrial redevelopment areas and levy compensation on offenders. According to DPCC officials, deputy commissioners of east, north and south municipal corporations of Delhi have been appointed as nodal officers to regularly monitor pollution levels at the 13 hotspots in the city.

The 13 hotspots are Rohini, Dwarka, Okhla Phase II, Punjabi Bagh, Anand Vihar, Vivek Vihar, Wazirpur, Jahangirpuri, RK Puram, Bawana, Narela, Mundka and Mayapuri. In addition to these 13 hotspots, DPCC has also identified five highly polluted areas. These are Gandhi Nagar, Peeragarhi, Azadpur Mandi, Rohtak Road and Sarai Rohila. A large number of vehicles passing through these areas are mainly responsible for the high levels of pollution there, according to DPCC officials.
