NEW DELHI: Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) made it clear that the municipal corporations must seal all the illegal industries that are causing pollution for a long period of time in the industrial areas. The decision was taken to shut down 199 unauthorized and illegally operating factories in parts of Old Delhi after Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) received a complaint.

Earlier in July DPCC had carried out an inspection in old Delhi including Daryaganj, Jama Masjid, Sita Ram Bazar and Turkman gate on the basis of CPCB directions and identified 199 unauthorized industries. Now DPCC has written to the civic bodies to take action against it.

The letter stated that industries can be set up only in some designated areas as per the Delhi Master Plan. Industries developing beyond these areas are patently illegal weather it’s polluting the environment or not. The letter pointed out that DPCC had not issued ‘consent to operate‘ to any of these units mentioned in the complaint.
