GURUGRAM: Developers of sewage treatment plants installed at residential and commercial establishments, have approached the National Green Tribunal(NGT) seeking relief from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority’s(GMDA) recent order instructing them to install online analyzers at their respective sewage treatment plants(STPs).
An earlier order of NGT was cited by the developers in their petition that had directed the Maharashtra Government to upgrade its STPs to meet the growing demands of the cities rather than forcing developers to install online analyzers. This was done keeping in mind the cost of each of these analyzers, ranging anywhere between Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs. 15 lakhs depending on the STP’s operational capacity.
One of the developers, while requesting anonymity, said, “We are not violators and we are treating sewage on a daily basis.”
“Developers approached the GMDA with the NGT order relating to the Maharashtra government in this regard. We will have to consider it. However, we have not yet received any direction from the NGT in this regard. We want online analysers installed at all the 366 STPs so as to monitor them on a daily basis through the GPS,” said GMDA chief engineer Lalit Arora.
