NEW DELHI: Delhi government has planned to install a total of 1.4 lakh cameras in the city to ensure better surveillance in the National Capital territory. Slum areas would also be included under the scheme. Manish Sisodia, Deputy CM of Delhi, inaugurated the scheme on June 22, in Patparganj, where 2,000 cameras are to be fixed. Sisodia said, “The project will not end until all parts of the city come under CCTV surveillance. This is one of the biggest projects for women’s security in New Delhi. The national capital will be the third city in the world to have such a massive network of CCTV cameras.”
The CCTV
cameras will provide the RWA members, Station House Officers (SHOs) and a
central control room at the PWD headquarters with live feed of the area it is
surveilling and the feed would be shared by incorporating a wireless system,
which will be running on Wi-Fi. The areas for surveillance have been determined
after local authorities conducted surveys to judge the appropriateness of a
location.
