NEW DELHI: Delhi has registered more than thousand corona positive cases for last two consecutive days. While on 28th the figure was 1024, it jumped to 1106 on 29th. This is the first time in Delhi that figure crossed four digit since the first case was reported on march 2. The total number of Covid-19 positive cases in Delhi now stands at 17,387, making it the third largest infected state in the country after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Out of the this, 398 deaths have been reported due to the pandemic and 7,846 have recovered, taking the number of active cases in Delhi to 9,576. While addressing a press conference along with Satyendar Jain, Health Minister, Delhi, Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Delhi, said that 69 out of the 82 deaths being added on to the cumulative toll on Friday happened over the last 34 days. There have been a controversy that a delhi hospital did not inform the government of actual number of deaths caused by the virus.

According to an expert committee formed by the Government of Delhi, the state would have entered Stage 3 of the pandemic as soon as the total number of cases show a consistent four digit rise. The state government is now trying to calm the public down by adopting a different approach to presenting the updates on the pandemic spread in the city. Sisodia pointed out that the recovery rate in the city is 50 per cent and nearly 80 to 90 per cent cases are being recommended to undergo home isolation, with most of them showing mild or no symptoms. The government has also taken over five hotels and have converted them into hospital after the numbers have swelled alarmingly in the last two days.
