NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to introduce cashless and touchless transaction for the passengers. The DMRC had introduced Quick Response (QR) codes initially and other digital payment methods during COVID-19 pandemic. The DMRC has invited Expression of Interest from some private firms to upgrade its Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system to enable QR code, bank account and RuPay based ticketing.
Presently, the QR-based rating system is available on the Airport Expressway Line where tickets are provided with the help of a mobile application. The Metro allowed the use of National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 15. In NCMC, the passengers will be allowed use RuPay debit cards issued in the last 20 months by nearly 23 banks. This is currently available only at the Airport Express Line and it will facilitate cash transaction across different modes of public transport.
