NEW DELHI: The Government of Delhi and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have recently announced that the beautification drive started in preparation for the G20 summit will be extended to other parts of the city after the event has concluded.
All major agencies, including the Public Works Department (PWD), MCD and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), have worked day and night to give a facelift to the national capital in pursuance of the G20 Summit, which concluded on Sunday, September 10. As part of the exercise, all major roads in the New Delhi district, including the Bharat Mandapam, venue of the G20 summit, were cleaned and decked with potted plants, fountains and sculptures.
Day after the G20 summit concluded, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Minister for Urban Development, Government of Delhi, spoke to the press and said, “The Delhi government will now take over the responsibility of maintaining the beauty of Delhi. All the government departments and the MCD will work to improve and beautify other parts of the city.”
Atishi, PWD Minister, Government of Delhi, informed that now that the summit is over the beautification exercise will be extended to the entire city in the coming few days. Over 1,400 km of roads that fall under the jurisdiction of the PWD will be given a facelift. Street lighting will be improved on footpaths and roads.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi thanked the municipal employees for all their efforts in beautifying the city. She added that they will continue the work to keep the city clean.
