NEW DELHI: Gopal Rai, Environment Minister of Delhi, on Sunday, launched an online portal specifically designed to allow the visitors of the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS) to book their tickets online and access the information regarding the flora and fauna of the WLS.

The portal was launched during a plantation drive organised in the national capital as part of the third Van Mahotsav programme. The event witnessed the participation of various eco clubs, resident welfare associations (RWAs) and MLAs from south Delhi.

Following the plantation of a native tree sapling, Rai said, “During the third Van Mahotsav programme, our government has launched an online portal which has been made for visitors at the Asola Bhati Wildlife Sanctuary.”

Rai mentioned that Van Mahotsav is not just a programme to increase the green spaces in New Delhi but also a programme that creates various websites to share greening information.

The Minister added, “In the Van Mahotsav programme organised a few weeks ago, an online portal was started by the forest department, through which Delhi residents can book free saplings. Also, to ensure the successful outcome of the Green Action Plan, a Green Action Plan Portal was also launched last week to provide the monthly plantation progress along with the geo-location and photographs of the plantation sites.”

Van Mahotsav programme started on July 9, under which an event is organised every Sunday in seven Lok Sabha constituencies. Last event, as part of the programme, was organised in Dwarka Mela ground in west Delhi.

Minister informed that the Delhi Government plans to plant around 5.2 million trees this year. Apart from that, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will also plant five million shrubs.
