NEW DELHI: The Government of Delhi has decided to do a survey of slums in the city to figure out the families living there. This step is being taken to ensure the housing and rehabilitation for the people living in slums.

As per an official, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has roped in a private agency for survey which also has the experience of working with underprivileged sections. This survey will start from the next week and will be completed in six months.

Bipin Rai, DUSIB member expert, said that the survey will be helpful to provide an updated database of the people living in slums and also will be helpful for the government to prioritise and speed up the process of relocation. As per an estimate, there are 15-20 lakh people living in slums.

He added that, this survey will be done under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (MMAY). Once we have the data available we will be able ensure the housing under MMAY which aims housing for all without eviction. The survey will also record the documents slum dwellers have and this will benefit them to avail any government scheme.
